Liverpool FC Digital Platform
Redesigning Liverpool FC's digital ecosystem across web and mobile. The goal was to create a more cohesive fan experience while introducing a scalable design system that could support multiple products across the club's digital platforms.
Context
The club's digital products had evolved over many years, resulting in inconsistent UI patterns and fragmented fan journeys. Teams were spending significant time rebuilding components instead of focusing on new features.
The Challenge
How might we create a unified design system that allows multiple teams to build consistent fan experiences while supporting the pace of live sport content and matchday traffic?
Approach
The project began with an audit of existing interfaces across web and mobile. From this we identified recurring patterns and built a foundational design system covering typography, layout, colour and interactive components. Design tokens were introduced to ensure consistency across platforms while allowing teams to scale quickly.
System Thinking
A major focus was creating a design system that worked for both designers and engineers. Tokens were structured to support multiple themes and responsive layouts while keeping implementation straightforward for developers. The system reduced duplication and allowed teams to prototype and ship new features significantly faster.
Outcome
The new platform introduced a clearer fan journey, improved accessibility and provided the club with a flexible design foundation for future digital products. Teams were able to launch new features more quickly while maintaining visual and interaction consistency across platforms.
Reflection
This project reinforced the importance of designing systems rather than individual screens. By focusing on the underlying structure, the team created a platform that could evolve with the club's digital ambitions.
